Herend is a porcelain factory that can be proud of its past. Over the years, the production of his porcelain has incorporated numerous motifs from different cultures with different traditions. At the end of the nineteenth century, Apponyi was born, the creative fusion of trends, habits and customs.
The decoration was created for Count Albert Apponyi (1846-1933), a famous Hungarian politician and diplomat. The motif depicts a stylized Indian flower basket with simple geometric and floral motifs, enriched by a brim and border; all painted strictly freehand by the master painters of Herend. The Apponyi collection was used for the first time on public occasions such as the table in the Elysée Palace at a reception in honor of Emperor Franz Joseph. Originally in green, the Apponyi service is now available in several color combinations: purple, royal fuchsia, green, orange, blue, yellow, brown, black and turquoise.
Herend's Apponyi decoration is also known throughout the world as Chinese Bouquet.
For two centuries, Herend porcelain has been painted by over 800 painters who use more than 1000 colors on around 400 different decorations, with a surprising artistic ability. Symbol of beauty, elegance, style, it has become a European Cultural Heritage. It has resisted the destructive force of time and managed to establish itself as a standard-bearer of timeless values.
